2002 - Where we started and how we got this far
The Cornish Real Nappy Project officially launched in April 2002 following an eighteen month consultation period. During this time views were sought from a wide variety of people including midwives, health visitors, doctors, hospital administrators, councillors, pregnant mums and new parents. As a result of this work a project was formed to increase the awareness and availability of information on washable nappies.
During 2002 the project produced and distributed information packs to every midwife in Cornwall these contained a sample nappy, a video, hand outs and practical laminated information sheets. The project ran trials in several nurseries in the county resulting in some parents purchasing washable nappies to use at home and a great reduction in waste disposal costs for the nurseries. Working with a teenage parenting project where two parents tried washable nappies and with parents embarking on home births. Throughout the year with the help of volunteers the project provided nappy changing facilities at events and plans were made for 2003.
